Greek Week

WATCH OUT CAMPUS... THE GREEKS HAVE TAKEN OVER!

Today while walking up to campus I saw Greek banners hanging from our bridge. This can only mean one thing... its Greek Week! About 1/3 of the students at WPI are Greek, meaning they belong to a fraternity or sorority, and the week before homecoming they participate in a week long competition and community bonding event.

This year's theme is Nickelodeon; so the events each day will revolve around this. Today's event was a talent show. Each group put together a skit, song, or another type of talent. Then a panel or faculty and students, (not affiliated with Greek life) voted on the winning group. Some of the other events are trivia, wiffleball, a cooking competition, penny wars, and of course the float parade before the homecoming football game.

I am not part of a sorority, however many of my friends are involved in Greek life. One of the nice things about WPI is that although fraternities and sororities are a big part of student life, our community isn't split into Greeks vs. non-Greeks. I can attend Greek Week events, anyone can. Greek Week is simply another expression of school spirit during the weeklong build up to Homecoming.
