Professors

Professors at WPI really make the experience...

Professor Abraham runs the entire actuarial program; meaning he teaches the actuarial classes, advises each actuarial student, counsels our actuarial club and he is typically the advisor for each of our major projects. So, if you are in the actuarial department this is a teacher that you spend a lot of time with. Plus, many of us go into his office on a regular basis just to chat. In particular, two of my friends and I, spend so much time with this professor that we have actually developed a nick name for him: Abes.

Spending time with professors, and getting to know them outside of the classroom is not at all uncommon at WPI. Because of the small class sizes, accessibility of the faculty, and project work, many of the students at WPI get to know their professors very well. For me this was particularly important because once I know a professor it is much easier to go to office hours and ask for help, or to even just ask a question in class.

But back to my story...

Saturday was Abe's birthday. For all you math folk, he turned "42 base 12" - he came up with that, not me. Anyway, my friends and I wanted to do something for his birthday. We have a meeting with him tomorrow at noon, and so decided we should bake him a cake, cup cakes to be more precise. Hope he likes them!
